Monday Morning Dino

My poor Dino has a had a rough couple of days.
We here in Cleveland got socked with snow followed by an ice storm. I took him out for a walk on Thursday and when he came in, he was limping. I looked at his paw and it was all red and inflamed between the pads. He wouldn't let me touch his paw and he howled in pain. My sweet Dino never complains about anything.
So I made an appointment to take him to the vet that day. My  new manager was SUPER understanding and let me leave for an hour and  a half to take him. When we got there, they took him in the back and I could hear him just wailing in pain. It was awful!
When the vet brought him back, he said that he thinks he has a puncture wound which could have been caused by the ice. He told me to keep an eye on it and he gave me pain meds and antibiotics. Dino being Dino still barked his head off when he smelled another dog in the waiting room.
"Ms. Starr, would you mind taking Dino to the car and then coming back to check out?"
Ahhh...the life of a beagle mom.
The swelling has gone down but he's still limping so there might be something actually impacted in his paw. If it doesn't get better tomorrow, I'll have to take him back for x-rays.

  1. Is odd that they can run around all summer and nothing penetrate the pad but walking on ice can. Hopefully nothing is still in it. Beagles can raise the roof cant they.

    1. It's crazy, right? I actually had to take him back today. I didn't want to chance having to take him somewhere on the holiday. (cha ching! His paw was totally swollen and he just held it up when he stood up. There was a fill in vet, which always makes me nervous, and she said it was infected. She doesn't seem to think there's anything in it but I guess time will tell.

I'm more than a little frustrated that it got infected while he was on antibiotics. She gave me something stronger but the pharmacy said the dosage is wrong and that they will have to check with the office tomorrow. UGH!

  2. Aw, Chrissy, I hope that Dino is on the mend soon!

I know what it feels like to get something as small as a paper on one of my fingers and the pain it can cause, so I can only imagine how it must feel to get a puncture.

    1. Thanks, Ron! I had to take him back today because his whole paw was swollen and the vet squeezed his paw. You can only imagine how awful that was for my poor boy. Hopefully stronger meds will do the trick!
